Chord Assist: The accessible smart guitar

Technological innovations provide solutions and workarounds to numerous issues we face in our routine day to day lives. Chord Assist attempts to alleviate one such issue for accessible users. Chord Assist is a system that makes learning the guitar more accessible to people who have vision, speech, or hearing issues.

The guitar features a button that is pressed to enable a microphone built into the instrument, enabling the student to ask for a chord that is then explained using a built-in speaker. It has an in-built tiny computer that connects to the cloud, LCD screen, Braille display and a speaker. Someone learning the guitar simply say commands to the guitar, like “how do I play the C major?”. The guitar then fetches the right information from the cloud and displays it on the Braille display and LCD screen, and also says it out loud through the speaker.
